Job Summary
A Lifting Supervisor is responsible for planning, supervising, and ensuring the safe execution of all lifting operations on construction sites in accordance with approved lifting plans, safety regulations, and project requirements.
The role ensures that cranes, lifting equipment, operators, riggers, and lifting activities are properly coordinated and executed safely to prevent accidents, equipment damage, and operational disruptions.
Typically reports to the HSE Manager, Construction Manager, or Project Manager.
Job Description
The Lifting Supervisor oversees lifting operations, verifies lifting equipment certification, coordinates crane activities, supervises rigging teams, and ensures compliance with approved lifting procedures and UAE safety regulations.
This role requires strong technical knowledge of lifting operations, crane capacities, rigging methods, load calculations, and construction safety standards.
Core Responsibilities
1. Supervision of Lifting Operations
- Supervise all lifting activities on-site
- Ensure lifting operations are executed safely and efficiently
- Verify compliance with approved lifting plans and method statements
- Coordinate crane movements and lifting schedules
- Ensure lifting zones are properly controlled and barricaded
2. Lifting Plan & Risk Assessment Review
- Review lifting plans prior to operation commencement
- Verify load weights, crane capacities, and lifting configurations
- Ensure risk assessments and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) are available and implemented
- Confirm proper selection of lifting equipment and accessories
- Ensure critical lifts receive required approvals
3. Equipment Inspection & Certification
- Verify validity of crane, lifting gear, and equipment certifications

Inspect lifting accessories including:
- Slings
- Shackles
- Hooks
- Chains
- Spreader beams
- Ensure defective lifting equipment is removed from service immediately
- Monitor daily crane and equipment inspection checklists
4. Coordination with Operators & Riggers
- Direct crane operators and rigging teams during lifting activities
- Ensure proper communication methods are used during lifting operations
- Verify competency and certification of operators and riggers
- Conduct pre-lift briefings and toolbox talks
- Ensure proper signalman and banksman coordination
5. Site Safety & Hazard Control
- Monitor lifting zones for hazards and unsafe conditions
- Ensure personnel remain outside suspended load areas
- Stop unsafe lifting activities immediately
- Ensure weather conditions are suitable for lifting operations
- Maintain compliance with HSE regulations and lifting safety standards
6. Incident Prevention & Reporting
- Report lifting incidents, near misses, and unsafe acts immediately
- Assist in lifting-related incident investigations
- Implement corrective and preventive actions
- Monitor recurring lifting safety concerns
- Maintain lifting operation records and reports
7. Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain lifting operation logs and records
- Ensure lifting permits and approvals are properly documented
- Verify crane inspection and certification records
- Maintain lifting equipment registers
- Support audits and authority inspections
8. Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with Construction Managers, Engineers, HSE teams, and subcontractors
- Attend lifting coordination and safety meetings
- Communicate lifting schedules and restrictions to project teams
- Liaise with third-party inspection agencies when required
- Escalate critical lifting risks to management immediately
